Life has a way of wrecking our plans, doesn’t it? We build our ships with great care, only to see them crash in ways we never expected. But what if these shipwrecks aren’t the end? What if they’re the beginning of something far greater than we could have imagined?
This is what the journey I take you on, in my most recent, season 2 ending episode of my podcast “Wandering the Wild Mess” because I know all too well, that when life gave me a “shipwreck” it was the hardest thing in the moment, but has become the best thing that EVER happened to me.
If you’re in a place where all seems lost, this ep is for you!!! I reflect on the profound power in the moments when everything falls apart. It’s in those moments of uncertainty, of loss, and of chaos that we find the opportunity to rebuild—not just our lives, but ourselves.
I dive into wisdom from teachers way back B.C., and go into Stoicism which teaches us a powerful truth: the mind is where everything starts. The shipwreck may be outside of your control, but your reaction to it is entirely within your power. We cannot control the storms life sends our way, but we can control how we respond. This is where true strength lies.
When we stop trying to control everything and everyone around us, we are free to focus on what matters most: our thoughts, our actions, and our mindset. This is where peace begins to bloom. By embracing the present moment and letting go of what no longer serves us, we step into our true power.
Master Your Mind
The mind is the ultimate creator of our reality. It can keep us trapped in cycles of fear and doubt, or it can free us to experience life with clarity and calm. The choice is ours. When we take control of our thoughts and reactions, we unlock the ability to create the life we want—not dictated by external circumstances, but by the peace and purpose we choose to cultivate within.
Focus on What You Can Control
So much of our energy is drained by trying to control things outside of us: other people, the past, the future. But the only thing you can truly control is yourself—your thoughts, your mindset, your actions. When you shift your focus to what you can control, everything else falls into place. It’s a powerful way to reclaim your energy and start living in alignment with your highest self.
Feel and Release Emotions
Life can be overwhelming, and emotions can feel like a storm that never stops. But stoicism teaches us that emotions aren’t the enemy; it’s our reaction to them that determines our experience. Feel what you feel, but don’t let your emotions control you. Allow them to pass through you, and then release them. When you do, you make space for peace to enter.
As Marcus Aurelius said: “You have power over your mind, not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.”
This wisdom is timeless. It’s a reminder that no matter what life throws our way, we have the power to choose how we respond. We can find strength in our stillness, clarity in our calm, and purpose in the chaos.
